A message from our Headmistress, Michelle Hill.

Durham High School has a proud history of nurturing bright, compassionate and capable young people. Up until a number of years ago, boys attended our school for their Pre-Prep education before moving onto different schools.
From September 2025, we started welcoming boys into our school community again – initially in Pre-prep and Prep; and from September 2026 we will welcome boys into Senior School and Sixth Form.
This decision marks an exciting evolution of our school. It builds on our tradition of academic excellence, strong pastoral care, and strong community ethos rooted in our Christian foundations. By welcoming both girls and boys, we are enriching the classroom experience, broadening perspectives, and offering families the chance to educate siblings together in a nurturing, inclusive environment.
We will be investing in our facilities, curriculum, and co-curricular activities at the same time as ensuring every child is supported emotionally, socially and academically throughout the transition and beyond.
We know change can bring questions, and over the coming months, we will be sharing regular updates about our preparations for co-education.
In the meantime, feel free to come and visit us. Click here to find out about our next Open Morning.
