Independent Learning and reading are essential. The two libraries, run by our qualified librarian, are therefore at the heart of the school.
Our Schroder Library in Senior Department provides a spacious, relaxing environment for everyone, with areas for group work and private study. It can be a hive of activity or a haven of calm. Pupils can use it as a place to retreat with a novel or browse the daily newspapers, meet friends and go researching together. Sixth Formers value the sacrosanct quiet of the carrelled area especially as exam pressure grows and deadlines loom.
Open throughout the day, the library provides an extensive treasury of books, newspapers, magazines, DVDs and on-line resources. Students can access their own library accounts and on-line materials at any time via the library web-portal.
The library supports both the taught and explorative elements of the school curriculum. It provides advice and help for older students conducting independent research as well as playing a wider role in school life by offering enrichment opportunities with its many book groups and extra-curricular activities.
While Pre-Prep and Prep pupils visit the Schroder library for story times and to work with project boxes, they have their own library too. Here they can read for pleasure in a cosy space, complete with bean bags or investigate topics for classwork. They can use the library before school, reading together or catching up with current affairs in ‘First News’ – a newspaper for youngsters.
