We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our girls in the CyberFirst Girls Competition. Organised by GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), this nationwide challenge in cybersecurity showcased their creativity, determination, and teamwork as they competed in the Independent Schools category.

With an impressive 12 teams and 43 girls taking part, preparation for this prestigious competition began during Computing lessons. The girls developed their skills in data representation, problem-solving, and logic, laying the groundwork for their success. Once the 10-day competition was underway, they dedicated Computing lesson time to tackling challenges, with additional support in Mathematics lessons. Many also used their breaks and after-school hours to collaborate and drive their teams forward, demonstrating incredible commitment and enthusiasm.

The CyberFirst Girls Competition is designed to inspire young women to explore the world of cybersecurity, featuring challenges in areas such as cryptography, networking, coding, and logic. These tasks simulate real-world cybersecurity scenarios, testing technical skills, creativity, and resilience.

Our teams performed exceptionally well, achieving brilliant results, a special congratulations goes to Robyn Morris (pictured above on right), who contributed an incredible points contribution to  her teams total, showcasing her exceptional skill and determination.

Beyond the results, the competition has been an invaluable learning experience, fostering confidence, teamwork, and a passion for technology. By taking part, our girls have taken an inspiring step towards bridging the gender gap in the technology sector and exploring exciting career possibilities in cybersecurity.

We are immensely proud of all our girls for their hard work and achievements. Their dedication and teamwork embody the spirit of Durham High School for Girls, and we cannot wait to see what they accomplish next!
